The Story Behind My Avatar, Myth

If you've been following me on Instagram, Facebook, or other social media for a while, you've probably seen a certain orange-haired fallen angel appear again and again. She has become the face of both my artwork and my shop.

Her name is Myth, and today I'd like to share the story of how she came to be.

How Myth Was Born

To understand Myth, we have to go back about ten years.

When I was creating my account on DeviantArt, I quickly discovered a common problem: nearly every username I wanted had already been taken. Many artists simply added numbers to the end of their names, but I wanted something more unique.

After trying countless combinations, I eventually came up with Themythicalangel. Surprisingly, I wasn't even particularly obsessed with angels at the time—I simply loved mythology, fantasy creatures, and stories. The username happened to combine those interests perfectly, and, most importantly, it wasn't taken.

For the first few months, my profile picture was simply a random manga angel I had found online. Eventually, I realised I wanted something that truly represented me. Rather than borrowing someone else's character, I decided to create my own.

That was the beginning of Myth.

The Original Story

Although Myth's design has evolved over the years, her core story has remained remarkably similar.

She was once a dutiful, reserved, and deeply devoted angel who lived in Heaven. One day, she was falsely accused of stealing food from an important banquet. Punished for a crime she didn't commit, she was cast out and sentenced to become a demon.

Refusing to accept her fate, Myth escaped before the transformation was complete, becoming something caught between both worlds—a fallen angel.

In her world, angels have blonde hair, bright "day" eyes, and wings that resemble the colours of the daytime sky. Demons, on the other hand, have red hair, dark "night" eyes, and wings coloured like the night sky.

Because Myth belongs to neither side, she inherits traits from both. Her hair turns orange, her eyes become heterochromatic, and her wings no longer match. She stands between day and night, belonging fully to neither.

The Meaning Behind Her Design

One of my favourite things about Myth is that some of her symbolism appeared almost by accident.

Only years later did I realise that her design naturally reflected dawn—the brief moment between night and day.

Her orange hair, purple clothing with golden accents, and blue wings all mirror the colours of a sunrise. Looking back, it feels as though I had subconsciously designed her around one of my favourite times of day.

Because of this, I now refer to her fallen angel appearance as her Dawn Form.

More Than Just a Character

Over time, Myth became much more than an original character.

She represents the version of myself I hope to become.

While Myth is confident, outspoken, and willing to challenge injustice, I have always been a naturally shy and introverted person. In many ways, I relate more to the quiet, dutiful angel she once was before her fall.

Creating Myth allowed me to explore a different side of myself through storytelling.

Today, she has become my artistic mascot and the face of my brand.

Her Different Forms

Throughout the year, I enjoy drawing Myth in different forms depending on the season.

Her original angel appearance is known as her Day Form, while her signature fallen angel appearance is her Dawn Form.

For holidays such as Christmas and Easter, I often use her Day Form in seasonal illustrations.

Last Halloween, I introduced a third version of Myth—her hypothetical Night Form, where she fully embraces her demonic appearance. Since then, I've made it a tradition to bring out this version every Halloween alongside another seasonal character of mine, Pale Pumpkin Boy.

Looking Ahead

Looking back, it's funny to think that Myth exists simply because I couldn't find an available username.

What started as a solution to a small problem has grown into the character who now represents me, my artwork, and my creative journey.

I hope you've enjoyed learning more about Myth and the story behind her creation.
